Put this cover over your windscreen at night and frost and snow settle on the cover instead of the glass. In the morning, lift it off, shake it and go. You still need to clear any ice and snow from your other windows, mirrors and lights before you drive: the Highway Code (Rule 229) says you must be able to see clearly out of every window.

We'll be straight with you: it's a simple foil cover, not a miracle. Here's what it does and doesn't do.

Made for larger vehicles

At about 148 x 120cm, this cover is sized for larger vehicles such as SUVs, vans, 4x4s and people carriers. It may not fit smaller cars like superminis, small hatchbacks and many saloons, where it can be too big to sit properly. Please measure your windscreen before you order.

Why it's handy

• Lift off and drive. Frost and snow land on the cover, not your windscreen, so you spend less time scraping and less time sitting with the blowers on.
• Use it all year. The silver foil side reflects sunlight, so in summer it also works as an outside sunshade.
• Magnets sewn in. The 9 magnets are stitched inside the fabric rather than left bare. Make sure the car and the cover are clean and dry before fitting, so grit doesn't rub on your paintwork.

Good to know before you buy

• The magnets are weak. The manufacturer says the magnets are weakly magnetic and won't hold the cover firmly on their own. On a windy night it may move or blow off.
• Magnets only stick to steel. If your vehicle has aluminium or plastic panels around the windscreen (some newer and premium models do), the magnets won't grip at all.
• Check the size. About 148 x 120cm (measurements can vary by 1–3cm). Best suited to SUVs, vans, 4x4s and people carriers. It may not fit smaller cars.
• Never drive with it on. Take it off before you set off.
